It’s no secret that The Walking Dead has seen better days, both critically and with fans. Still, AMC’s apocalyptic series continues to command attention, and this fall will bring with it the arrival of season 9.
With the all-out war between Rick and Negan seemingly finished (for now anyway), producers have said that TWD season 9 will represent a turning point for the long-running drama, as new storylines and characters emerge to take center stage.
Without spoiling things for those who aren’t caught up, The Walking Dead season 8 ended with Maggie and Rick at a bit of an impasse, as the two leaders couldn’t quite agree how to handle things. Thankfully, fans can now rest assured that Maggie will be back.
It was previously reported that actress Lauren Cohan was likely to leave TWD, as she was the only principal star to not have signed a contract for season 9 months ago. She also booked the lead in an ABC pilot called Whiskey Cavalier.
Now though, Deadline reports that Cohan has in fact finalized a deal to return for season 9. Cohan will for sure appear in at least 6 episodes of season 9, and might well do more if her ABC project isn’t picked up to series.
Walking Dead fans are sure to be relieved that Maggie’s story will now able to continue without incident, as losing her abruptly like that would have thrown the series out of whack. Cohan had been seeking a large pay raise, although it’s presently unclear if she got one.
