While Halloween (and really the entire month of October) has long been akin to Christmas for horror fans, in recent years, October has become a cause for celebration for an altogether different reason. On Halloween 2010, AMC debuted their TV series adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic books, and the pop culture world has never been the same since.
Routinely topping the ratings charts among the prized 18-49 demographic, The Walking Dead has grown into a juggernaut the likes of which cable TV has never seen before, often drastically outperforming broadcast network darlings like The Big Bang Theory, The Blacklist, and Modern Family.
That all said, there is easily no more anticipated small-screen event this year than The Walking Dead’s fifth season premiere, and AMC just dropped the first full trailer on the masses gathered at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. Feast your eyes on it below.
Wow. If that doesn’t get you hyped up for 16 more episodes of Walking Dead insanity, then nothing will. Half the fun is watching the trailer yourself, so I’ll refrain from recapping it too much. Suffice to say that it looks like Rick’s group will be forced to enter a somewhat unholy alliance with an enemy, a tenuous quest to get to Washington and create a cure for the zombie virus will be undertaken, we’ll finally get to see where the heck Beth disappeared to last season, and lots and lots of “walkers” are going to get decimated in ever more grotesque fashion. In other words, it’s going to be awesome.
The Walking Dead season 5 premieres on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 9/8c on AMC.
