Yesterday, we brought you new information on the upcoming horror movie based on the popular children’s series The Banana Splits.
Today, we have a trailer and it is off the chain!
The trailer starts out as a genial slice of life. It’s Harley’s birthday and his parents are taking him and his older brother–much to the brother’s chagrin–to see a live taping of his favorite TV show.
As the action takes us behind the scenes, we see the show’s producer, Rebecca (Sara Canning) receive the news that the show has been cancelled. Hey, it happens, right?
Things go from zero to slaughter in 3.5 seconds flat however, when Fleegle, Drooper, Snorky, and Bingo–who appear to be automatons–realize they’re out of a job. It seems they don’t want to be cancelled and they get very violent, very fast in protest.
The show’s happy-go-lucky opening theme was always a little nerve-wracking but it takes a downright insidious tone in the wake of the carnage.
On the bright side, it looks like The Banana Splits is taking a not-too-serious, semi-schlock tone overall. However, when the majority of targets in their sights are kids under 12, well, we will just have to see.
One things is certain, we’re in for a wild ride with this one!
The film is set to debut this Fall on Syfy after a home video release by Warner Brothers.
