While genre fans are still mourning the loss of Hannibal, they can at least take comfort in the fact The Strain (from Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse) will get at least as many seasons as that.

FX revealed today that the show will be back for a third season next summer despite second season ratings that haven’t been quite as strong as the first’s. The news was announced by Eric Schrier and Nick Grad, Presidents of Original Programming at FX Networks and FX Productions.

“Guillermo and Carlton have delivered two thrilling seasons of ‘The Strain’ that are captivating and visually arresting, doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans’ high expectations in the process,” said Schrier. “We’re excited to see them carry this powerful story into a third season on FX.”

While it’s still early in the second season, the show has only become more entertaining this time around if you ask me. I know I’ll be looking forward to the rest of it and to what next summer has in store.
