Stephen King’s end of the world epic, The Stand received its first tease over the weekend. The 30-second clip doesn’t reveal much but does whet our appetites a bit.

In the clip we see Mother Abigail (Whoopi Goldberg) inviting a follower to meet with her and her followers.

The Stand revolves around Mother Abigail’s group and Randall Flagg’s group of survivors banding together into two camps in what culminates in an all out battle of good and evil.

The Stephen King book remains one of his all time best, arguably. Director, Mick Garris adapted the story in 1994 for TV. The mini-series was event television and was set records at the time of airing.

The news out of this new adaptation is that it will remain a bit closer to the source material in the time allowed. As a bonus it will also have a cameo of Garris at some point.

I’m all about a new version of The Stand. Garris’ version will always have a special place in my collection. But, it will be interesting to see what this new version does with the source material.

The Stand lands on CBS All Access on Dec. 12.
