Today it was announced that WWE Studios (A film studio run by World Wrestling Entertainment) and Lionsgate would be producing a sequel to the 2006 horror film; See No Evil starring the professional wrestler known as Kane.
See No Evil was the biggest hit for as well as the first film for WWE Studios in 2006. It held this title until the Halle Berry thriller “The Call” was released earlier this year. While I thoroughly enjoyed the film as it was clearly a nod to the slasher films of the 1980’s, it was a film that I never expected a sequel to be developed.
Kane will be returning as the psychotic madman; Jacob Goodnight while Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby will be co-writing the script.
What makes the news even more interesting is that Jen and Sylvia Soska aka The Soska Sisters have been chosen to direct the sequel. For those unfamiliar with the work of The Soska Sisters, they are the duo behind 2009’s “Dead hooker in a trunk” and most recently, 2012’s “American Mary” starring Katherine Isabelle of “Ginger Snaps” and “Freddy vs. Jason” fame. The Soska sisters could quite possibly be the next big names of the Horror community. The Soska sisters are innovative to say the least with tracking shots reminiscent of Martin Scorcese in “Dead hooker in a trunk” and they managed to shoot “American Mary” in a mere fifteen days by raising money independently as well as re-mortgaging their home. I’m looking forward to seeing what the sisters can do with a bigger budget to work with and studio backing.
