The Shining

We all have our favorite horror films, but were I to be forced to choose an absolute winner, I’d probably pick The Shining. And by that I mean Stanley Kubrick’s iconic film version, not the widely disliked TV miniseries that admittedly sticks closer to the book.

I don’t hate the King-written miniseries as much as most do, but there’s no question that Kubrick’s Shining is one of the greatest horror movies ever made. It endures as a classic nearly 40 years later for a reason, as it’s an impeccably made work of art.

Well, that’s my opinion anyway. In a new “Honest Trailer” from Screen Junkies, the question is asked: is The Shining really a masterpiece, or are parts of it just outright boring? I’d say no, but the Honest Trailer is still quite funny, and can be seen below.

While I can’t entirely refute some of the jabs taken at The Shining above, that won’t change just how much I love it, and I bet that’s true for most of the iHorror faithful. Still, there’s nothing wrong with some good-natured ribbing every now and again.

My favorite joke comes in the ending “and starring” montage with the “cut my wife into pieces, this is a ghost resort” line, obviously referencing the Papa Roach song “Last Resort.” Although calling the movie itself “So I Married an Axe Murder” is inspired.
