Suspiria and Black Swan are probably the most recognized horror movies based in the world of ballet, but did you know there is another one which has vampire ballerinas and vengeful ghosts?

That’s right, it’s called Livid and it was made back in 2011 by the same duo who made Inside: Alexandre Bustillo, Julien Maury. Maury eventually went on to direct Leatherface.

Even though it’s subtitled it was originally meant to be released in English not French, but the directors chose to go on a smaller budget after they learned they wouldn’t have creative control over the story.

The film was described by the American Film Market as being a little bit different than their previous film.

“If Inside was meant to play as horror taken from fact then Livid plays as horror taken from fairy tale, the Grimm kind with all the bloody bits left in.”

Livid was also supposed to get an American remake by The Pact and At the Devil’s Door director Nicholas McCarthy, but that project never got off the ground.

If you like gothic horror with blood-sucking ballerinas and other spooky creatures check out this stylish and chilling offering.

If you have a region-free DVD/Blu ray player, the film is available at Amazon.
