Everyone seems to be terrified of clowns and they have every right to be. It doesn’t matter how old you are, children and grown adults alike seem to be shaken to their core at the sight of them. When you get down to it, it’s grown men putting on war paint parading around your children. This may explain why circuses aren’t as common as they once were.
Filmmaker Jon Watts decided to take a different approach, a man turning into a clown rather than dressing up like one, separating it from the pack and creating a faux trailer, simply entitled Clown. He even went as far as to give Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel) a producing credit, although it was part of the joke. It was a joke we all fell for; awaiting this nightmare fueled clown movie that would never come to be… (Check out the original faux trailer below)
However, once Eli Roth caught wind of it, he was so fascinated by it that he wanted to get on board and produce the film for real, with Jon Watts directing his and Christopher Ford’s script, helping turn their hair-raising trailer into a feature length movie.
It actually sounds like a sweet and innocent premise with a likable character from the beginning that will unfortunately go through a ghastly transformation and do gruesome things, making for a sentimental, yet brutal, hard R rated horror flick. It’s more than enough to make anyone afraid of clowns to hide under the covers for nights to come. But enough of me talking about it; check out the actual trailer below! It takes the ideas of the original and expands on them, as you’ll see. Clown is set to be released on video later this year.
“A loving father finds a clown suit for his son’s birthday party, only to realize the suit is part of an evil curse that turns its wearer into a killer.”
