Josh Boone’s The New Mutants is taking the X-Men universe in a very horror-centric direction in the first, full official trailer.
Last year, we got our first look at The New Mutants and responses were mixed to say the least. The teaser appeared to take the usual big action X-Men blockbusters and place it in a compartmentalized box that resembled a scary take on One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.
The first full trailer doubles down on that effect with a few glances at some of the big bad moments as if to point out “hey, you guys. This is still an X-Men movie.”
The synopsis breaks down like this:
an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.
This one was in trouble for a bit, following Disney taking ownership of 20th Century Fox. Now, in a bit of good news it appears that we will be getting Josh Boone’s original vision of The New Mutants and best of all we will actually see a release for the once troubled picture.
The New Mutants hits theaters April 3.
