The folks at Small Town Monsters are taking on one of the most discussed and debated moments in American paranormal history with The Mark of the Bell Witch, a new docudrama set for release next month.
Seth Breedlove (The Mothman Legacy) describes the project as “a dramatized retelling of the entire sordid tale of the merciless spirit who tormented the Bell family from 1817 to 1821 in Adams, Tennessee.” The film arrives just ahead of the 200th anniversary of the death of John Bell, the moment which turned a family’s crisis into American folklore almost overnight.
While this is hardly the first time the events that took place in Adams have been adapted for film–An American Haunting famously retold the story with a star-studded cast including Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek–the folks at Small Town Monsters note that large portions of the story have been omitted in previous productions and that this is truly a faithful retelling of what took place 200 years ago.
The story of John Bell’s death remains one of the only cases in the recorded history of this country in which a spirit was believed to be the cause of death, and it is still a part of Appalachian folklore that is taught in school in Tennessee to this day.
The Mark of the Bell Witch will be available to rent or own on Amazon Instant Video, Vimeo OnDemand, DVD and VIDI Space starting December 15, 2020. Blu-ray and DVD copies are available for pre-order exclusively a the Small Town Monster online store by CLICKING HERE!
