Netflix has set an official release date for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, their new prequel to the popular 1982 film, The Dark Crystal by Jim Henson. The ten episode series will drop to the streaming network on August 30, 2019.
The series is set “many years” before the original film. Here’s what we know about the plot from the official synopsis:
The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.
Taron Egerton (The Kingsmen), Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) will lead the voice cast as the Gelfling Rian, Brea, and Deet.
The rest of the all-star ensemble includes Helena Bonham-Carter (Sweeney Todd), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), Eddie Izzard (Mystery Men), Harvey Fierstein (Independence Day), Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (A Wrinkle in Time)!
