The ‘Blair Witch’ Game Trailer Takes Us Back to Found Footage Terror

by Trey Hilburn III

One of the biggest horror surprises at Xbox’s E3 2019 conference came with the reveal of a game based on the 1999 Blair Witch film.

In the teaser (which had me thinking it was a Silent Hill entry up until the mention of the Black Hills Forrest) a man and his dog, Bullet go on the hunt for a missing a missing boy named Peter Shannon. All leads seem to point police to The Blair Witch’s stomping grounds of the Black Hills Forrest. From there we can be sure that this poor guy and his dog are in for a hell of a night.

The fact that the trailer seems to be taking place in a time loop might hint at this game working off of permadeath, roguelike mechanics similar to Dark Souls. The possibility is definitely an intriguing one. All I’m asking for is that our trusty dog Bullet never falls into any harm at any point.

Developer Bloober Team (Layers of Fear) are the creative minds behind the direct sequel/prequel to the 1999 Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez found-footage horror phenomenon. With a nice track record of effective jump scares and atmospheric horror, I think thatBlooper Team is a perfect fit.

The game itself looks to be a cross pollination of Outlast and Alan Wake in some of its mechanics. But we will have to wait and see when the Blair Witch releases later this year on August 30.

What do you guys think? Ready to get creeped the hell out at the hands of The Blair Witch again? Let us know in the comments.
