Beginning in 1984 and running through 1991, the Silent Night, Deadly Night franchise is comprised of five installments, followed by one remake.  Throughout the entire series, over 50 people have met their end at the hands of killers dressed as Santa, killers not dressed as Santa and even killer toys, and today here on iHorror we wanted to shine the spotlight on the cream of the crop; the best scenes of death and destruction from the franchise.

So pour yourself a nice warm cup of hot cocoa and let’s deck the halls with chunks of bodies!

8) SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT: PART 2 – NEED AN UMBRELLA?

Some movies are so bad that you can’t help but love them, and Silent Night, Deadly Night: Part 2 is most definitely one of those movies.  Though the bulk of the film is made up of flashbacks to Silent Night, Deadly Night, Part 2 ensured its cult classic ‘best worst movie’ status thanks to a handful of new sequences, which see Ricky Caldwell following in big brother Billy’s footsteps.  In one of the more memorable kill scenes, Ricky gets vigilante justice on a dude he sees beating up on another dude, impaling the naughty man with an umbrella… which opens up on the other side of his body.  Of course, it’s far from the best kill in the film, but more on that in a second!

7) SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT – SLAY RIDE

Just like Ricky, Billy was all about punishing the naughty, and after turning Ira’s Toys into a museum of torture, he heads out to clean up the streets.  When he spots two bullies stealing a couple sleds from some nice young kids, Billy knows it’s time to put his trusty axe to work.  Just as one of the bullies reaches the end of the hill he rides the sled down, Billy Claus jumps out and chops his head clean off with his axe, leaving his headless corpse to finish the ride.  PUNISH!

6) SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT 5: TOY GORY

Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker is in my opinion the most underrated holiday horror film of all time, a true gem that is just begging to develop a cult following.  Much like Halloween 3, Part 5 has nothing to do with the franchise it’s a part of, but is nevertheless an incredibly fun flick.  It also contains my favorite horror movie sex scene of all time, a moment of intimacy that is broken up by the arrival of an army of robots, dinosaurs, monster trucks and army men, which proceed to decimate the young lovers.  If you need any explanation for why I love this movie so much, you need only look to this whacky scene, which sums it up pretty well!

5) SILENT NIGHT – SPLITTING HEADACHE

Though the original Silent Night, Deadly Night was more fun than it was overly gory or gruesome, Steven C. Miller’s 2012 remake was all about extreme blood and guts.  In one of the most graphic kill scenes of the entire year, a young man’s head is split in two via the business end of an axe, gross sloshing sounds and gallons of the red stuff emanating from the wound.  Sorry buddy, but Advil won’t help ya through this one!

4) SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT 5: LARRY THE LARVAE

In the other most memorable kill scene from The Toy Maker, one of the main characters buys off his landlord by giving him a rubber ‘Larry the Larvae’ toy he picked up from Joe Petto’s toy shop, telling him that the toy is “to die for.”  What he doesn’t realize is how true those words will soon end up becoming.  The landlord tosses the larvae toy in the backseat of his car, at which point it comes alive and starts squirming around the vehicle.  Though it’s at first kind of cute, the toy soon takes a turn for the deadly, jumping into the landlord’s mouth and emerging out of one of his eye sockets.  He just wanted to play!

3) SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT: PART 2 – GARBAGE DAY!

Though I typically rank kill scenes based on how gory and/or creative they are, this particular one is a big ole exception to that rule.  It’s not gory and it’s not even creative, but rather it’s the delivery of a now iconic one-liner that makes this scene one of the more memorable horror movie kills of all time.  Wielding a handgun, Ricky comes across a man taking out the trash, who he proceeds to shoot in the stomach… but not before screaming out the words “garbage day.”  Due to the ridiculously corny line, and actor Eric Freeman’s gloriously over the top delivery of it, the scene has of course become an internet sensation in recent years… and rightfully so!

2) SILENT NIGHT – WOOD CHIPPER MASSACRE

Taking the most memorable scene from Fargo to a whole nother level, the killer Santa in Silent Night chases a topless model into a Christmas tree farm, where he proceeds to hack one of her legs off and toss it into a wood chipper.  As if that wasn’t torture enough, he then feeds the rest of the girl’s body into the chipper, an explosion of blood, guts and ground up bone shooting out the other end.  And the PTA thought the killings in the original were too violent!!

1) SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT – JUST HANGIN’ AROUND

Though the franchise is full of fun death scenes, they just don’t get any more clever or any more iconic than Scream Queen Linnea Quigley’s demise, in Silent Night, Deadly Night.  In fact, the scene of Billy hanging a topless Quigley up on a set of deer antlers is one of my favorite horror movie kills of all time.  Doesn’t get much better than this!
