A horror short film called Lights Out, directed and written by David Sandberg is the inspiration for an upcoming feature film of the same name. The feature version, which drew inspiration from the short film below will be produced by James Wan of The Conjuring and Annabelle. New Line Cinema also have a hand in its production. The fantastic short film that inspired this movie is one of many horror shorts by Sandberg that are creepy, full of jump scares and all under 3 minutes in length.

I love short horror films. There is very little useless or boring elements to them. It is all suspense and frights, straight to the point. Don’t get me wrong, the slow build of foreboding in films like The Shining is fantastic. But sometimes you just want a quick fright. These videos are a 2 minute piece of fiction that, when good can stick with you for the rest of the day. Leaving you occasionally looking over your shoulder uncertainly. An experience with horror movies that is proving to be increasingly difficult to find.
There is some casting news regarding Lights Out that has emerged of late. This is that Teresa Palmer has joined the project, she has been seen in Warm Bodies and I Am Number Four.
The concept of this movie is really interesting and should be the kind of concept that allows a director to use some very effective techniques. The fact that the monster only moves when the lights are off actually remind me of the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who.
