Seems like it’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything about The Purge television series (obviously based on the Blumhouse’s The Purge movies), but just yesterday, James DeMonaco, the creator of The Purge movies, announced to Entertainment Weekly that it’s happening. For really real and you better believe Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse, is excited about it.
“We are excited that with the launch of this new studio, we are expanding our partnership with NBCUniversal by growing The Purge franchise into a television series,” Blum said, “and are grateful for their incredible support of Blumhouse overall.”
DeMonaco isn’t just stepping aside and letting whoever do whatever to the films he wrote and directed. He will be acting as the showrunner, so it will remain true to his original ideas. Sounds great to me. Blumhouse Television will be producing The Purge television show, which is being re-launched as an independent television studio with ITV Studios and Universal Cable Production will be co-producing the show that will be airing on USA and SyFy. No cast or crew announcements just yet, but you can count on us to bring you that information as it comes, however, Blumhouse did mention that it has been rumored that the plot may act as an anthology of sorts that runs parallel to the three films. We can’t wait to see who will be cast and what’s going to happen.
