Syfy Orders George Romero’s ‘Day of the Dead’ Series

by Trey Hilburn III

Send more brains! Good news for zombie lovers. Variety reports that SYFY has ordered George Romero’s Day of the Dead to series.

The 10 episode series will focus on:

The remake will tell the intense story of six strangers trying to survive the first 24 hours of an undead invasion. It is described as an ode to Romero’s famous flesh-eaters that reminds us that sometimes all it takes to bring people together is a horde of hungry zombies trying to rip them apart.

Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas will serve as writers and showrunners for the series.

The previous two Day of the Dead remakes were both mostly met with negative reviews.

In an post Walking Dead saturated world, it’s hard to say if another series about a group of people trying to survive the zombie apocalypse will work. However, SYFY is obviously betting on the fact that it will.

The last time I watched zombie-centric content that I enjoyed was with Train to Busan. Let’s hope that SYFY intends to mix the zombie genre up a bit in suit. Because, as it stands zombies are kind of stale at this moment.

What do you guys think? Excited about a Day of the Dead series?
