The Strangers – directed by Bryan Bertino – breathed new life into the “inspired by true events” horror film subgenre. In a time where most films of this nature were remakes (such as The Amityville Horror or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) or serial killer stories (like Dahmer, Zodiac, or Monster), The Strangers was a fresh new tale of terror. Audiences were stirred by the now-iconic explanation of why their victims were chosen; “because you were home”.
The film was such a success that rumors about a sequel began to circulate. Official plans were announced, then seemingly halted. Then, back in May, casting was revealed and the game was afoot. Now we’ve finally got the teaser trailer, poster, and release date for the much-anticipated sequel, titled The Strangers: Prey At Night. Rejoice!
The plot description is as follows:
A road trip takes a dangerous turn when a family arrives at a secluded mobile home park to stay with relatives and finds the park deserted. Under the cover of darkness, three masked psychopaths show up and test the family’s every limit.
The Strangers: Prey At Night stars Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Bailee Madison (Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark), and Martin Henderson (The Ring). Directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, Storage 24) and written by Bryan Bertino (The Strangers, The Monster) and Ben Ketai (The Forest), the film hits theaters on March 9.
