Stranger Things news is always exciting news, and today’s announcement by Netflix’s chief content director, Ted Sarandos, is no exception.
As reported by Variety, Sarandos announced two exciting additions to the hit series’ already impressive cast.
First up, Cary Elwes, the 80s heartthrob who made EVERYONE swoon in The Princess Bride, will appear as Mayor Kline who Sarandos described as “your typical 80s politician-more concerned with his own image than with the people of the small town he governs.”
It’s the type of role that Elwes has excelled at in the last couple of decades. Whether he’s playing the ethically challenged Dr. Lawrence Gordon in Saw or sleazy stormchaser in Dr. Jonas Miller in Twister.
Also joining the cast will be Jake Busey who will take on the role of Bruce, a reporter for the town newspaper with “questionable morals and a sick sense of humor.”
Busey, who shot to fame in Starship Troopers, is the son of Gary Busey and has been no stranger to genre work. He will also appear in the highly anticipated upcoming sci-fi film, The Predator.
Netflix previously announced that actress Maya Hawke, daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, would also be joining the cast in the third season as one of the new leads playing a character named Robin.
Stranger Things remains one of Netflix’s most popular series with a devoted fanbase. Its mix of 80s nostalgia with solid storytelling and terrifying suspense keeps us coming back for more and these new casting announcements are just the kind of thing to ratchet up the anticipation.
