We’ve heard rumors and hints from various sources for what seems years about a movie adaptation of what some consider, King’s epic masterpiece “The Dark Tower. While the project itself has been in developmental hell for a few years, the master of horror finally shines some light on the ambitious film and TV adaptation of his multi-book saga that it is still coming. Director Ron Howard is at the helm of the project and the plan is to tell the story not just as a film, but as a series of television seasons, too. Presumably, sources point with the TV series as being a Netflix original series and the goal for the movies is three films making it a trilogy.
King told MTV:
“The idea of using the front story as theatrical tent pole movies, and using the back story of when the characters are a little bit younger as a TV thing, to be able to shoot both at the same time, and use these big sets for TV — it’s a very innovative idea. It took me 35, 36 years to write The Dark Tower. As for the movie, sooner or later, it’ll show up.”
Well, for me thats pretty solid coming from King himself. As far as production goes it seems the wheels are finally slowly turning on making this long awaited project come to light. According to a sit down with the Breaking Bad star at Sundance via Ain’t It Cool News, the actor dropped a bomb that he has been in meetings with Howard about playing “Eddie Dean” Howard thinks Paul would be a canny fit for the former-heroin-addict-turned-gunslinger Eddie, or as Paul put it:
“I’ve had a ton of meetings on that. I just had a general sit down with Ron Howard, who is a huge fan of the show (‘Breaking Bad,’ naturally), which is such a crazy thing to even think that Ron Howard even knows who I am. They’re definitely planning on making it. I’m excited.”
That’s not all by far! Rumors are circulating that Liam Neeson has expressed interest on taking on the role of Roland Deschain!
While hearing this news about The Dark Tower gets me excited that the project is once again alive and breathing, we are in for a shitload of rumors and reports connected to the film. It’s not a solid yet and the Tower is still in the early stages of pre- production; but there you have it ladies and gentlemen. The Dark Tower is hanging on for the green light and we are that much closer to getting this much anticipated gem to hit the screen.
What do you think of Paul and Neeson starring in the film? Any other suggestions? Who would you like to see portray whom? Let us at iHorror know and chime in on the comments below!
