First off, if you’re not watching The Strain, you really should start. It’s FX’s new vampire series, based on the same-named trilogy of novels from Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, and the first seven episodes have all around been incredibly entertaining, full of colorful characters and some truly wild monster action. Never too late to start playing catch up.
If you’ve been watching, this past Sunday night’s episode likely left you feeling very excited for more, as it marked the first appearance of the character you see pictured above. Though nothing was revealed about the man – not even his name – he immediately showed that he’s a badass dude not to be messed with, easily laying waste to two vampires – and one innocent young girl who was about to become one.
Emitting snake-like hissing noises and with a set of front teeth ripped right out of Salem’s Lot, all the dude really needed to do was show up to instantly become one of the most badass characters on TV, and right about now you’re probably wondering who the hell he is – and how he fits into the story.
If you’d like to learn those answers as the show feeds them to you, that’s totally understandable. But if you’re just dying to know more about this guy, read on for some knowledge!
Played by the always badass Stephen McHattie (above), this dude goes by the name Quinlan and is a member of a group known as ‘The Born.’ Armed with silver blades and a sawed off shotgun, Quinlan is a vampire who is looking to put an end to The Master, after learning that the ancient vampire aligned with a human, thereby breaking an old sacred truce.
In the book The Strain: The Fall, Quinlan eventually ends up joining forces with Gus (re-christened ‘The Sun Hunter), which is likely what’s also going to happen on the show.
Of course, the show could always depart from the source material, but that should give you a basic idea of who Quinlan is, and what we can expect to see from him in the coming weeks. Can’t wait, as he’s yet another character on the show that I’m just dying to learn more about!
