Recently, the internet bore witness to a fairly creepy trailer for Slender Man, the first feature film to be based on the popular creepypasta character.
While the film has drawn some criticism due to real life crimes that have been linked to misguided worship of Slender Man by their mentally troubled perpetrators, for the most part, horror fans are still willing to give the project a chance.
Unfortunately, those looking forward to checking out Slender Man in May will now have to wait quite a while longer to get their fix. Hopefully this extra time will be used to improve the film, which the trailer made look pretty derivative.
Bloody Disgusting reports that Sony has opted to delay Slender Man’s arrival in theaters by three months, from May 18th to August 24th, 2018.
No reason was given for the delay, although one might surmise that Sony feels Slender Man will have more competition for viewership in the packed month of May than it will near the end of the summer blockbuster season.
For reference, May will play host to both Solo:A Star Wars Story and Avengers: Infinity War, which look poised to earn roughly all of the money on Earth. Plus, the original May 18th date would have put ‘ol Slender right up against another franchise sequel, Deadpool 2.
