Yesterday came the news that A&E has renewed small screen Psycho prequel Bates Motel for two more seasons, though unfortunately they’ve cancelled The Returned after just one season. Today brings nothing but good news on the horror TV front, this time courtesy of Showtime.
Variety reports today that the network has renewed Penny Dreadful for an upcoming third season, set to begin production in Dublin this fall. Nine brand new episodes will comprise Season 3, which will make it longer than Season 1 but shorter than the currently-airing Season 2.
“John Logan’s brilliant writing and this amazingly talented ensemble continue to draw a passionate, global fanbase into the meticulously crafted world of Penny Dreadful,” said Showtime Networks president David Nevins. “Together with our wonderful partners at Sky Atlantic, we’re excited to see what new haunts John and his team have in store for season three.”
For those new to Penny Dreadful, the series stars Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, and Billie Piper (among others) and is set in a 19th-century world populated by classic characters from horror literature. Just some of the legendary figures represented include the Wolf Man, Dr. Frankenstein and his monstrous creations, Dracula, and Dorian Gray.
Don’t miss a brand new episode of Penny Dreadful on Showtime this Sunday night, June 21st. It’s the third-to-last episode of the season, which wraps up July 5th.
