The Monroeville Mall, best known as the filming location of George Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, was the scene of a shooting last night. It occurred at around 7:30 PM at Macy’s, and the teenage suspect was arrested at a home in Brackenridge about 3:15 in the morning.

Two men and one woman were shot in what police are saying was not a random shooting. One of the men had been the intended target. According to The Associated Press, both men are in critical condition, and the woman is in stable condition. From the report:

“All of the sudden we heard people screaming,” Athena Coffey of Churchill told KDKA-TV, “and the next thing you see is a bunch of people, teenagers, scared to death, just exodus en masse in a way you could not believe. I grabbed my children, husband, we started screaming ‘go, go, go!'”

Here’s a police press conference about what happened:

A couple months ago, the Monroeville Mall was the scene of another violent incident when a big fight broke out, and people had to be carted away in an ambulance.

In addition to providing the iconic setting of Romero’s zombie classic, the mall was used in Kevin Smith’s Zack and Miri Make a Porno, which also included characters wearing hockey jerseys for the Monroeville Zombies.

The mall has another horror connection in that it is mentioned repeatedly in Stephen King’s novel Christine.
