In the latest move in the Viacom shuffle, it has just been announced that the third season of the popular series Scream will premiere July 8, 2019, but not on MTV. Instead the series will debut on VH1 according to Variety.

For those keeping track, the last episode of season two of the series aired in October of 2016. There was no official word on why the third season has taken so long to come to fruition.

MTV and VH1 have both pulled back on their scripted programming in recent years. Still, they’re moving forward with season three with a brand new story to tell for what is being called a three night event!

Variety also reported that the next installment will revolve around a football star named Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler). When secrets from his past resurface, Deion, his family, and friends will all find themselves in danger.

Mary J. Blige (The Umbrella Academy), Keke Palmer (Scream Queens), and Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf) are set to co-star. Wes Craven who created the Scream films with Kevin Williamson will be listed as an executive producer on the series.

iHorror will keep you posted if and when more details become available, but for now it’s time to mark your calendars for July 8, 2019, update your channel selection, and settle in for another season of Scream.
