Working regularly in Hollywood since the 1980s, Cary Elwes first gained fame for his leading role in The Princess Bride. He’s since gone on to appear in lots of memorable films and TV shows, including The Crush, Twister, Liar Liar, and The X-Files.
When it comes to horror though, Elwes is no doubt best known for his lead role as Dr. Lawrence Gordon in James Wan’s original Saw film, which memorably saw him amputate his own foot. He would return briefly in Saw VII, as an apprentice of Jigsaw.
Now, Deadline reports that Cary Elwes has joined the cast of Blumhouse’s upcoming Black Christmas remake. It’s unclear what part he’ll play at present, but it’s not hard to imagine him in a police role similar to John Saxon’s in Bob Clark’s original film.
Elwes joins new lead Imogen Poots in the Black Christmas cast, who herself has a horror resume in 2015’s Green Room and the 2011 remake of Fright Night. This will of course be the second remake of Black Christmas, the first coming in 2006.
Blumhouse’s remake – releasing on December 13th – is expected to keep the basic premise of an unknown killer taking out sorority sisters intact, but looks to update the scenario, making the female cast less easy targets than they were in the original.
