Ryan Reynold’s Maximum Effort company has had an interesting year. Sure, there are movies and stuff like that they do, but the real bit of hilarity comes from Reynold’s involvement in the commercial ad world. Earlier in the year, the actor did a Mint Mobile commercial that brought actor Rick Moranis out of retirement. The production company’s latest comes in the form of a When Harry Met Sally Match.com ad.
The video introduces a very bored and despondent Satan to 2020. Of course, these two hit if off without a hitch and the whole thing devolves into a rom-com styled montage. Of course this montage is like a greatest hits of 2020. From the empty streets and stadiums to the toilet paper hoarding.
“Match is responsible for bringing millions of people together and even in this dumpster fire of a year, people somehow found love on Match. We just imagined what a ‘2020 match’ would look like and this video was the natural, slightly warped result. Also this stuff gives me something to think about during the board meetings,” Reynolds said about the ad.

The whole thing is pretty spot on and pretty damned hilarious. My favorite thing about the whole thing is that this version of Satan is obviously modeled after Tim Curry’s Darkness from Ridley Scott’s Legend.
