‘Santa Clarita Diet’ Canceled by Netflix

At this point in its lifespan, Netflix has played host to lots of great original content that’s relevant to horror fans. While Stranger Things is the obvious leader of that pack, my personal favorite is Santa Clarita Diet, starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant.

A completely insane zombie comedy, Santa Clarita Diet stars Barrymore and Olyphant as Sheila and Joel Hammond, respectively. A married couple, both are realtors, but their life gets turned upside down when Sheila suddenly dies and comes back as a zombie.

While she retains most of her psyche, Sheila soon finds herself overcome with the urge to eat people. Instead of abandoning his wife, Joel pledges to help her anyway he can, and with the help of daughter Abby (Liv Hewson), seeks to manage her condition.

Sadly, we’ll now never know the ultimate fate of the Hammonds, as Deadline reports that Netflix has very abruptly canceled Santa Clarita Diet after three seasons. The news comes about a month after the release of season three onto the service.

Netflix has offered no reason for the cancellation, which is quite puzzling after just how acclaimed season three was. It does continue a trend of Netflix canceling many original series after three seasons though. Notably, Netflix recently raised its prices.
