If you love horror (and anyone reading this website most likely does), chances are you have an appreciation for the works of Sam Raimi. While he’s a Hollywood big shot now, Raimi of course made his name directing the Evil Dead trilogy starring Bruce Campbell.
Sadly, his genre output has been rare since, outside of 2000’s The Gift. Raimi became an A-lister via his trilogy of Spider-Man films, leading him to spend more time producing. He did at least direct 2009’s terrific Drag Me to Hell, which I find to be underrated.
Since Drag Me to Hell, Raimi’s only directorial effort to fall in the horror realm is the 2015 pilot for the brilliant but short-lived Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead. However, there is cause to rejoice, as THR reports that Sam Raimi’s next feature will be a horror film!
Unfortunately, little is known about the project so far, outside of it being described as a mix of Misery and Cast Away. Penning the script are the team of Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who wrote 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason and the 2009 Friday the 13th remake.
Raimi’s next horror film is in such early stages that it doesn’t have a title yet, much less a release date. Still, whenever it finally arrives, Raimi’s reputation suggests it’ll be quite the exciting prospect. Now, if only he’d direct the new Evil Dead movie.
