Netflix to Begin Filming on Comic Adaptation

If you haven’t caught on to the Netflix original series craze, then you’re missing out.  Netflix has had a long stream of successful television series lately and have even tackled video games with their animated take on the popular Castlevania games originally created by Konami.  Now the genius minds at Netflix have gone deep into the somewhat obscure and pulled The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina out of the comic pile.

For “millennials” Sabrina the Teenage Witch would have been one of the go-to sitcoms, while the adults had Friends and Seinfeld.  So why isn’t Netflix just rebooting the sitcom you ask?  That’s yet to be explained. But remain optimistic because the source material for the new series is full of interesting stories.  This series isn’t like the traditional teenage coming of age, but more like Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Now the source material isn’t as dark as some of the others which Netflix has scavenged to create its series, but you can bet it’s going to be unique. The story follows a sixteen-year-old Sabrina in the 1960’s; she is torn between her mortal life and her witchy destiny.  Much like the Teenage Witch series right?

Well things take a turn into creepyville really quickly when Madame Satan appears in young Sabrina’s hometown of Greendale.  Folks that is just the synopsis of the first issue!

Sabrina the Teenage Witch itself was a spin-off of the the Archie comic series of the same name.  So it’s really no surprise that Netflix has decided to go into the darker side of the Teenage Witch.  With the success of the Archie spin off Riverdale, we will need to be patient to see if the dark take on this tale will be just as successful.  The show begins filming in March.
