‘Rodney & Sheryl’: Anna Kendrick Set to Star in Real-Life Serial Killer Story

Rodney & Sheryl

Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect) is set to star in Rodney & Sheryl, the real-life story of a serial killer who competed on The Dating Game and won. Netflix has picked up the project written by Ian MacAllister McDonald (Some Freaks). Chloe Okuno (Full Circle) will direct.

It was in 1978 that Rodney Alcala appeared on The Dating Game. The man was flirty and charismatic enough to be chosen by Cheryl Bradshaw, but she later refused to go out with him, even on the show’s chaperoned date, because of the creepy vibe he gave off when they met face to face.

It was later revealed that Alcala had already been convicted of the attempted murder of a 12-year-old girl at the time he appeared on the show and was suspected of other murders, but he made it onto The Dating Game due to lax background checks. Two years later he was sentenced to death for the murder of a young woman, and police found evidence that placed suspicion on Alcala for the possibility of many more unnamed victims, including hundreds of photos of women and young girls and boys in a storage locker.

Though Alcala and his lawyers filed multiple appeals, he was never successful and with the advance in DNA forensics, he was tied to several more murders. The man’s death sentence was commuted to life in prison when a moratorium was placed on death penalty cases in the state of California in 2019. He remains in prison to this day.

Kendrick began her career on Broadway as a child actress before successfully making the transition to film with movie like CampPitch PerfectA Simple Favor, and Up in the Air, for which she was nominated for numerous awards including an Oscar.

It will be interesting to see who they cast to play opposite Kendrick in Rodney & Sheryl, and iHorror will keep you posted on those details as they become available.

New ‘The Watchers’ Trailer Adds More to the Mystery

Published

on

Although the trailer is almost double its original, there is still nothing we can glean from The Watchers other than a harbinger parrot who loves to say, “Try not to die.” But what do you expect this is a Shyamalan project, Ishana Night Shyamalan to be exact.

She is the daughter of twist-ending prince director M. Night Shyamalan who also has a movie coming out this year. And just like her father, Ishana is keeping everything mysterious in her movie trailer.

“You can’t see them, but they see everything,” is the tagline for this movie.

They tell us in the synopsis: “The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.”

The Watchers opens theatrically on June 7.
