Well, Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots was a tabletop fave growing up. It was one of those games, much like Hungry, Hungry Hippos where you smash the hell out of some cheap plastic in order to somehow dominate friends. Now, Universal, Mattel and Vin Diesel are bringing the massively popular tabletop to a live action film.
For those who have been living under a rock, Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em Robots was a game that pitted blue and red robots against one another via some shaky controls. The goal was to smack the other player in the right spot to knock his block off and earn points and ultimately victory.
Vin Diesel will star and also produce with his company One Race Films. Rampage and The Commuter writer, Ryan Engle penned the screenplay that sees a father and son become besties with a war machine, that I assume we will see go boxing other war machines.
If you remember a few years back Hugh Jackman had a film called Real Steel that sounds very similar to this one. But, it will be cool to see the fresh take and guess what? Robots beating the shit out of robots is cool.
“To take the classic Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots game, with Mattel as my partner, and align it with the kind of world-building, franchise-making success we have had with Universal is truly exciting,” said Vin Diesel who will also star.
