It’s a classy touch for a trailer to open with Malvina Reynolds’ “Little Boxes,” for a movie about people trying to escape them using only their wits.
Such is the set up for Adam Robitel’s aptly named Escape Room which heads into theaters in January 2019. Robitel has been the one to watch ever since his Taking of Deborah Logan became a cult hit. He followed that up with the hugely successful Insidious: The Last Key.
From the looks of his latest film, he is keeping with the supernatural theme but incorporating plots twists and turns in the form of physical puzzles. In case you were born yesterday the title refers to the biggest social gathering phenomenon since karaoke.
The real game starts by placing a group of people in a themed room with an allotted amount of time to find a way out before an alarm goes off. Robitel has taken that idea and made it more suspenseful and terrifying.
Here is the official synopsis:
“Escape Room is a psychological thriller about six strangers who find themselves in circumstances beyond their control and must use their wits to find the clues or die.”
Escape Room will unlock in theaters January 2019.
