The Devil's Rejects

As far as memorable characters in recent horror movies go, they don’t get much more iconic than Baby, Captain Spaulding and Otis Driftwood, who were of course the main characters in both House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects.

With all three characters biting the bullet at the end of the latter, it seemed any sort of follow-up was completely off the table, though let’s not count out such a film just yet…

Nearly 10 years after the release of The Devil’s Rejects, Rob Zombie has revealed that he would love to bring the Firefly clan back to the big screen, though not everyone involved is as eager to do so.

In an interview featured inside the pages of Fangoria’s recent limited edition Rob Zombie tribute issue, the musician/filmmaker noted that he’s come up with a way to bring the characters back, but their return isn’t exactly in his hands.

“I’ve always thought I’d like to make another movie, because I love the characters, and I have an idea I think is solid for a third one – an idea that would make sense,” said Zombie. “The problem is, I don’t own the characters now. They’re owned by Lionsgate, and they just don’t have any desire to do anything. So it isn’t me not doing it because I don’t want to; I don’t have the ability to get it done.”

If you’re asking me, Rob Zombie’s first two films are his best work to date, and so I’d love to see him return to that world. Even if the characters are truly dead, there’s still endless stories to be told about their past, and I couldn’t possibly be more on board with the idea of their nasty exploits being turned into a trilogy.

Don’t deny us this one, Lionsgate. I beg of you!
