New R.L. Stine Books, Movies, Films

Many of us remember sitting back and reading R.L. Stine books when we were younger. In fact, youth in the ‘90s was practically defined by his Goosebumps and Fear Street book series. For those of us wanting a bit of nostalgia, Netflix has the original Goosebumps series streaming. If you’re looking for something a bit more up-to-date, though, the year of R.L. Stine is among us.

Best R.L. Stine Book in a Decade

You might not have noticed, but there has been a consistent flow of R.L. Stine books coming out over the years. Stine says that he’s putting out around four books a year, and he’s the first to admit that “some of them aren’t that great.” This isn’t surprising considering the fact that – in his words – he’s “written every story a human can write.”

Seriously, he’s published at least 330 books. Even Stephen King only can lay claim to around 70. Fortunately, we don’t have to worry about his latest tale being “not that great.” In a recent tweet, Stine said he believes this is his best book in a decade.

Even if some of the latest R.L. Stine books haven’t been amazing, this is still great news. After all, the man held the world record for the best selling children’s books of all time before Harry Potter hit the scene. If he tells me this is his best book in 10 years, I’m inclined to believe him.

Fortunately for super horror fans, there are more than just books on the horizon.

R.L. Stine Series Coming Soon

If you’re an old-school R.L. Stine fan, you remember his first young adult novel, The Babysitter. It kicked off his career and spawned several sequels. Unlike the oftentimes silliness that accompanied Goosebumps books, The Babysitter and its followup entries landed more squarely within the realm of a psychological thriller.

While Goosebumps may have been the most popular of R.L. Stine’s book series, The Babysitter is no doubt what first brought us into his world. Fortunately, Lookout Entertainment recently announced that is was working with Chernin Entertainment to bring the popular novels to our television screens:

Very little information has been released on the details of the show. If you’re absolutely jonesing for your Stine fix, though, you’re in luck. Goosebumps Dead of Night was recently released on PlayStation, Xbox One, Switch and Steam. There’s also a series based on his work, Just Beyond, currently in development over at Disney+.

Fear Street is Coming Back!

If the new R.L. Stine book accompanied by games and series wasn’t enough, it seems Fear Street is also making a comeback. Fear Street: The Beginning is an anthology work coming out around Halloween and will feature the first four books from the series. Even more exciting, however, is the trilogy of Fear Street films on the horizon.

Netflix and Disney recently closed a deal for a series of Fear Street films with releases planned out over Summer 2021. They should be released roughly a month apart on Netflix, and they’ll be part of the theme “Summer of Fear” on the streaming giant. The films were originally slated for theatrical release, but thanks to COVID-19 and other issues, that has changed.

R.L. Stine Films, Books and Shows – OH MY!

If you’re anything like me, you remember rarely being able to find R.L. Stine books at the school library. As a kid, I certainly didn’t have the money to buy all of the horror icon’s works – but hey, I’m an adult now! Hopefully you’re just as excited about what’s coming as I am.

Let us know if you’ll be watching, reading or playing any of the latest terrifying editions to the Stine world in the comments!
