Is this Space Madness or are my eyes seeing this correctly? According to The Hollywood Reporter, it appears that the groundbreaking Nickelodeon show Ren & Stimpy is getting a reboot at Comedy Central.
The reboot news comes on the heels of the upcoming Ren & Stimpy documentary titled Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy: The Ren and Stimpy Story that explores the creation of the characters as well as an exploration into the life of creator John Kricfalusi. At the moment there is no news as to what the show will consist of exactly. We can be hopeful it isn’t the same direction that the Spike TV approach took with the series.
“Ren & Stimpy joins our rapidly expanding roster of adult animation including South Park, Beavis and Butt-Head and Clone High as we continue to re-imagine our treasure chest of beloved IP for new generations.” ViacomCBS Entertainment and Youth Group president Chris McCarthy said.
Beavis and Butt-Head are also betting the reboot treatment over at Comedy Central along with Clone High and a Daria spinoff. It’s quickly feeling like the early 90s all over again.
It’s great to see that Ren & Stimpy are coming back. There has been plenty of controversy around the show for a lot of reasons, but primarily its creator John K. It will be interesting to see where the series decides to go. We will let you know more as soon.
