Horror master Sam Raimi is hoping to get another Evil Dead chapter out before too long with a concept coming maybe as early as next spring.
The producer/director talked to Bloody Disgusting and told the genre pub he is currently hashing out some of the details for a big-screen return.
“I’d love to make another one. I don’t think TV is in its future but we’re talking about – Bruce Campbell, Rob Tapert and myself – one or two different ways to go for the next movie. We’d like to make another Evil Dead feature and in fact we’re working on some ideas right now.”
Campbell has retired his iconic role as Ash and may not be making the comeback, but Raimi has other ideas if that’s the case, reboot helmer Fede Álvarez is one of them.
“I would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line. But if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that.”
The Álvarez 2013 entry was less a remake than the beginning of its own storyline in the same universe said, Raimi.
The director offered up the possibility of a third idea, but didn’t go into specifics.
And fans won’t have to wait long for news on the project.
According to Raimi: “So I think you may see some action on the Evil Dead movie in the next six months.”
Raimi has a producer credit on the horror thriller Crawl, recently out on demand. He is also behind the upcoming Grudge film and Don’t Breathe 2.
