We gave you a full trailer back in June and thought that would be the last we’d see of The Predator (not just because of the camouflage). But in a last push to rev up hype for the upcoming film, they’ve released a brand new red band trailer full of gutsy glory.
If they were trying to generate excitement, let me tell you, it is working.
Director and co-writer Shane Black (who played Hawkins in the 1986 original Predator) shared that he thinks the first film is “the ultimate genre film“, so his goal with the newest entry in the franchise was to revive that 1980s energy.
He explains, “With The Predator, I approached the film as if it was being made back in the 1980s. I wanted to make a 1980s war film and then add in the FX shots later.”.
With this newest – and final – trailer, we’re definitely seeing that macho confidence that made the first film so wildly fun, but with an updated swagger for the modern age.
We’re also getting a glimpse at some new (ugly) four-legged faces. Say what you will, this movie is throwing everything at the wall and I am totally here for it.
Keep in mind, this new trailer also comes on the heels of some additional reshoots for The Predator. But from the sounds of it, the reshoots have streamlined the film and made it much darker (literally).
Now, if you have concerns about the tone, the predictability, or the one-upsmanship of the villains, need I remind you that completely ridiculous content and highly obvious plot are basically canon for the Predator franchise. And that’s ok.
The Predator stars Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Thomas Jane, Alfie Allen, and Augusto Aguilera.
The film will have its world premiere as part of the Midnight Madness program at TIFF before it hits theatres on September 14th.
