The Horror “Threequel” – Our Top 10!

The Threequel: the third movie in a series and sometimes the last can be good or bad, there really isn’t a formula to their success. Some threequels are the final installment in a trilogy while others are a mear distant memory of an everlasting series. 

The question I was faced with, what are the best third horror films ever? What makes a good third film in a franchise? Is this really a good film or purely a guilty pleasure? Well, folks, part of this list is a guilty pleasure, and I am sure you will identify those as your scroll on through. Have fun!

10. Return of The Living Dead 3 (1993).

Colonel Reynolds and his group of government scientists continue their work on re-animating the dead for military use. His son Curt and his girlfriend Julie use Dad’s security pass to sneak in and watch the proceedings. Later when father and son have a disagreement, Curt and Julie take off on a motorcycle and Julie is killed in an accident. Grief-stricken, Curt takes her body to the lab and brings her back to life. Curt must help Julie deal with her new existence as military agents and local gang members try to find them. Starring Melinda Clarke, J. Trevor Edmond & Kent McCord

09. Final Destination 3 (2006). 

A student’s premonition of a deadly rollercoaster ride saves her life and a lucky few, but not from Death itself, which seeks out those who escaped their fate. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead & Ryan Merriman.

08. Insidious: Chapter 3 (2015).

A prequel set before the haunting of the Lambert family that reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. Starring Lin Shaye & Stefanie Scott.

07. Scream 3 (2000).

While Sidney and her friends visit the Hollywood set of Stab 3, the third film based on the Woodsboro murders, a new Ghostface begins to terrorize them once again. Starring David Arquette, Neve Campbell, & Courtney Cox.

06. Psycho III (1986).

Norman Bates falls in love with a fallen nun who stays at the Bates Motel alongside a drifter and a curious reporter. Meanwhile, “mother” is still watching. Starring Anthony Perkins, Diane Scarwid, & Jeff Fahey.
