There is nothing more hearty than a Deadite except perhaps for the franchise that brought them into this world.

Who knew back in 1981 that the Sam Raimi directed Evil Dead original would be such a cult classic. Well, maybe fans did. But that’s beside the point as we are getting word from the man with the chin himself, Bruce Campbell there’s going to be a fourth film.

“We’re just getting off the phone with Lee Cronin, who is writing and directing the next Evil Dead,” he verified when asked about it by Empire. “It’s called Evil Dead Now. Sam handpicked Lee – he did a cool movie called The Hole In The Ground. We’re going to get that sucker out as soon as practical.”

Sadly Bruce who has played the demon-killer Ash since its inception has hung up his chainsaw for this installment, with hero duties perhaps going to an as-yet cast female lead reports Empire.

“From this point forward, they kind of have to stand on their own. Which is fine. And liberating,” says Campbell. “You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case. This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic.”

“We just want to keep the series current,” he added. “And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”

Of course, being a demon slayer rocks no matter what gender they are as seen in Fede Alvarez’s 2013 reboot.

Fans wept a bit when Starz canceled Ash Vs. Evil Dead, which saw Campbell play Ash one last time.

In order to get all the details on this upcoming entry into the Evil Dead universe and what Campbell has been up to you’ll have to check out the July 2020 “Hero” issue of Empire for the full interview on sale Thursday 11 June.
