The home that stands on the property where notorious serial killer John Wayne Gacy carried out his horrific crimes is up for sale in the suburbs of Chicago.
To be clear, this is not the actual home where the murders took place. That dwelling was torn down back in 1979. It was later purchased as an empty lot by a woman who wanted to build a home for her retired parents. She paid just over $30,000 for the lot according to TMZ and built the three bedroom, two bath house that is currently on the market for $459,000.
You won’t find any mention of the property’s dark history in the real estate ads, however. By law, realtors in Illinois are not required to disclose that kind of information unless a client asks.
Gacy was convicted of murder in 1980. Police discovered 26 bodies of young men and boys who he had raped and murdered, generally by strangulation or asphyxiation, in the crawlspace under his home. Three more bodies were buried elsewhere on the property and four more were reportedly dumped in the Des Plaines River.
His heinous crimes have spawned more than one film and he has been the subject of numerous documentaries and true crime television episodes.
The property, itself, became a hotspot for onlookers, paranormal investigators, and forensics specialists for several years before the current home was built. The property is currently listed with Prello Realty.
