I seem to be one of the few who thought 2012’s Prometheus was absolutely brilliant, as it worked well as both its own movie and a pseudo-prequel to Alien, if you wanted it to be. Centering on a race of super humans known as The Engineers, the ending of the film gave birth to the very first Xenomorph, which led many to believe that the sequel would more or less be a remake of Alien.
That’s not the case, however, as director Ridley Scott recently announced that there will be no familiar-looking monsters in Prometheus 2. Basically, he stated that those particular creatures have been milked for all their worth over the years (true), and he simply has no interest in continuing down that particular path.
Of course, with Prometheus 2 on the horizon, that begs one big ole question: Who are the villains going to be in the sequel, if not the Engineers or the Xenomorphs?!
In a new interview with Scott, brought to our attention by SciFied, the visionary filmmaker provided somewhat of an answer to that question, letting us know what we WON’T be seeing in the film and providing some insight as to what we WILL be seeing.
First off, Scott said that there will be no Gods or dragons in the much-anticipated sequel, as dragons are another movie monster that he is sick and tired of seeing up on the screen. He referred to the original ‘Alien’ as being “the definitive dragon,” so basically all lesser dragons should stay out of the casting sessions.
“With Prometheus 2 what I’m trying to do is reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act,” he revealed, hinting at the fact that there will be aliens in the film… they just won’t be the aliens we’ve come to know, love, fear and watch in really bad movies where they battle Predators.
The script written, filming on Prometheus 2 is set to begin in late 2015, and you can expect the film to hit theaters sometime in 2016.
