Practical Effects Laden ‘House of Blood’ Harkens 90’s Slashers

by Timothy Rawles

Florida filmmakers of the movie House of Blood are honoring the slashers of yore with their seemingly endless buckets of blood and gore.

Practical effects are the name of the game for this movie which was actually completed eight years ago but was shelved until now.

The COVID-19 pandemic, and home viewing have made it possible for the movie to come out of hiding and it can now be rented on Vimeo. It will be available on Amazon Prime in the upcoming weeks.

“House of Blood”

Tampa Bay locals created House of Blood, a low budget, indie passion project that pays homage to classic horror movies such as Friday the 13th and My Bloody Valentine.

“The sweltering laid back summers nights of Miami Beach usually full of dancers and nightlife turns bloody as a crazed masked killer kidnaps a young stripper,” the synopsis reads. “Two Miami Detectives are thrust into the killers dark twisted world in an attempt to stop him from killing again. They take the risk of becoming the killers next victim.”

House of Blood has already screened at a few festivals including Sunscreen FilmFest and  Orlando FilmFest.

This is the directorial debut of special effects veteran John Rusnak who has worked in the business for over a decade.

It stars Peter Hooten, Brian Kahrs, Owen Harn and Lauren Nash.
