Much the same way R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps stories are iconic and memorable, so too are the covers that presented them to us, most of which were created by artist Tim Jacobus.
When I was a kid, the eye-catching artwork for books like The Haunted Mask and Night of the Living Dummy was as enticing as the lurid video store art I went on to develop a fondness for, and to this day nothing fills me with the warmness of nostalgic bliss quite like those Goosebumps covers.
Though the classic cover design of those original 90s books has been changed and upgraded for modern times, one clever artist is keeping the style alive through his brilliant Tumblr blog If It Were Stine, which is devoted to one thing and one thing only; imagining a world where horror movies have been turned into Goosebumps books.
As eloquently described in the blog’s mission statement, If It Were Stine is all about ‘ancient classics and modern masterpieces of horror as seen through the neon-green, pun-dripping lens of R.L. Stine’s beloved Goosebumps series.’
