Peter Dinklage is teaming up with Legendary Entertainment to take on a reboot of The Toxic Avenger, and honestly, we can’t wait!
The actor who became a household name with his portrayal of Tyrion Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones has never shied away from interesting choices in his career, jumping between genres and proving himself a consummate actor capable of playing anyone and anything. It’s really no surprise, then, that he would take on a new production of the 1984 Troma classic which spawned a whole franchise as well as a live musical and a Saturday morning cartoon!
According to Deadline, Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz will serve as producers on the new film. We’re hoping that means that while the FX and writing might be updated, some of that special Troma atmosphere will still remain.
The Toxic Avenger follows an everyman character named Melvin Ferd, a “98 lb weakling” who finds himself transformed into a musclebound mutant after being pushed into a vat of toxic waste.
Legendary Entertainment has been a driving force in genre entertainment with hits including the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as past hits Crimson Peak, Krampus, Pacific Rim, and As Above, So Below. It will be interesting to see how they navigate the Troma landscape.
