Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is gearing up for its premiere on Showtime, and earlier today, they gave us casting news that has us ready to step back in time once again!

Described as a spiritual descendant of the show’s first iteration, the show is set in 1938 Los Angeles and follows Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) who finds himself caught between worlds when he begins investigating a particularly grisly murder. The story will blend Mexican-American folklore into the social and political climate of the 1930s.

Most of the show’s details have been under wraps since its announcement, but earlier today Deadline announced that Amy Madigan (Field of Dreams), Brent Spiner (Star Trek: The Next Generation), and horror icon Lin Shaye (Insidious) will be joining the cast of the new series!

Spiner is on tap to play Vega’s boss, police captain Ned Vanderhoff, while Shaye will play Dottie Minter, an ally of Vega’s colleague Detective Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane). Dottie is a key player in the fight to stop the Third Reich’s influence in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Madigan is set to portray Adelaide Finnister, the mother of a radio evangelist who runs her daughter’s religious empire with an iron fist.

Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Kerry Bishe (Argo), Jonathan Nieves (Grey’s Anatomy), and Adriana Barraza (Drag Me to Hell) will also star in the series.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels was created and written by John Logan, who also created the original series. It is set to premiere later this year on Showtime!
