It’s hard to believe that it’s now been 10 years since the seemingly-dead Jigsaw rose up from a dirty bathroom floor and cemented his status as a bonafide horror icon. Spanning seven total installments, the Saw franchise no doubt ranks right up there with all the greats, defining an era and making a whooooooooooole lot of that green stuff.
Given the popularity and moneymaking success of the franchise, it’s likely that a remake isn’t too far off, but at the moment it’s just a little bit too early for that sort of thing. So instead, the 10th anniversary of the original Saw is being celebrated not with a reboot but rather with a re-release, allowing many fans to see it up on the big screen for the very first time.
Lionsgate just made the announcement that Saw will be returning to theaters for one week only beginning on October 31st – yep, Halloween night – with select screenings taking place the night prior. Theatrical listings haven’t yet been provided, but it likely won’t be long before those details emerge.
It’s now been four years since Saw ceased to be an annual Halloween tradition for us gore-hounds, so it’s a nice little treat that all the torture is returning this Halloween season. Whether you like the film or not, it’s definitely an important one in the landscape of the genre, very much deserving of a special re-release such as this.
For those who prefer to stay home, Saw: The Complete Collection hits Blu-ray on September 23rd, collecting together all seven UNRATED films in the franchise. The price tag is incredibly low over on Amazon, so you might want to consider placing your pre-order before it goes up!
