12. Peeping Tom

What was the first slasher movie? If you remember your “Scream 4” trivia, “Peeping Tom” beat “Psycho” to theaters by months in 1960, earning the unofficial title. The movie is about a photographer who invents a device that kills his subjects as it takes their picture, snapping a photograph at the exact moment of death. Ooh, scary. Although tame by today’s standards, this movie effectively ruined director Michael Powell’s career in England. -James Jay Edwards
