Yes, it’s official – a reboot of the 1984 movie Gremlins has been confirmed. I guess it was just a matter of time – it seems all the 80’s classics are getting remakes.
My only non negotiable is a CGI Gizmo – I don’t think I can handle lil Gizmo being turned into some sort of Jar Jar Binks.
Dark Shadows writer Seth Grahame-Smith will reportedly produce the movie alongside David Katzenberg, son of DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg.
It is not yet clear who will direct the picture.
Plans for the reboot are said to have been in place for a while, but were held up while Warner Bros negotiated the rights to the property with Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
The original film – starring Zach Galligan as a young man who acquires strange pet Mogwai – was directed by Joe Dante and spawned a 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch.
