Why in the world have I not thought about this brilliant idea before?! Elissa Kazooichi, a So Cal cosplayer, devised a plan that could only make Oogie Boogie proud. Kazooichi and two friends dressed up as Lock, Shock and Barrel from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas and visited a local mall Santa Claus.
Based on Kazooichi’s Instagram (@carnivalrhythms) photos, it appears they successfully “kidnapped” Mr. Sandy Claws!
The Nightmare Before Christmas was created by Tim Burton, originally as a poem inspired by a window display with Halloween decorations transitioning into Christmas decorations, and then directed into a stop-motion animated film for Disney by Henry Selick. The movie follows a skeleton named Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, who grows tired of his neighborhood, appropriately called Halloween Town.
Jack magically stumbles upon Christmas Town and gets inspired to take over the job of Sandy Claws, Halloween Town’s name for Santa Claus. Oogie Boogie is the resident villain and Jack enlists Oogie Boogie’s henchmen, Lock, Shock, and Barrel, who are naughty trick-or-treaters, to kidnap Sandy Claws. After a case of mistaken identity, (the kids first kidnap the Easter Bunny) the trio eventually kidnaps the actual Santa Claus.
Kazooichi’s cosplay is accurate because in the film, Lock, Shock, and Barrel dress up as a skeleton, witch, and devil. The children use in the kidnapping a black plastic bag with orange pumpkins, and the cosplay features the correct costumes with masks and the plastic bag.
If it seems like the Santa in their photo doesn’t look amused, don’t worry Kazooichi and pals asked Santa to look upset, as one would appear during shenanigans like a kidnapping.

The only thing missing is a puppy dressed as Zero and people dressed up as Jack and his true love, Sally. Maybe someone will take a photo with Santa and dress up as the simply meant to be couple next year! Happy Holidays and Happy Boo Year!
